Edinburgh recommendations

Severely gentrified these days. Some utterly awful bars popping up and famous traditional establishments being turned into hipster concept bars.
Blue Blazer near the grass market and the Cask and Barrel on Broughton Street are ok for beer. I don’t mind the Oxford and the Cambridge bars on young street but they’re fairly middle class affairs. They’re all fairly central.
Also don’t expect many beers under £4. Still love Edinburgh but things are changing very fast

Cloisters on the Bruntsfield end of the Meadows was decent for ale when I lived there - civilised, afternoon sesh sort of place. I'm a bit out of date, though, there's probably craft ale places left and right nowadays.
The Pond in Leith if you like a place with a bit more local colour - well off the beaten track though.

Specifically, good real ale bars and secondhand record shops

Have a look on the CAMARA website for Edingurgh, that`ll give you a good idea of decent pubs and will provide a brief description of what`s going on / what ale they sell.

It`s a couple of years since I`ve been, but I really like the boozers around the Grassmarket.

the whiskey exhibition is fantastic, id highly recommend that

generally found most pubs off the royal mile were reasonably priced. we did eat in a place called the filling station on there though as it was the only place that wasnt a hour wait and the food was sound if you like american type foods ribs burgers etc
