I think they sold 344K or something in the first month when anticipated sales were 400K. It's hardly a disaster. Especially when there are no system selling games out yet.

Actually, to sell so many based on the hardware and potential of the system alone is impressive, to me.

And remember, the DS went a good year before all the casuals bit the line. That said, as I've said before, I'd rather it be a commercial failure if it meant more core games (a la gamecube).
Agreed but i think it has failed,by Nintendo's recent triumphs at least,it may get a second wind when they cut the price and as you say if ay new killer titles come along,again i'll sit on the fence,no i wont on second thoughts i think it'll go down as a glorious failure but an important one becuase it has tested the 3d waters all 3 companies will be watching it over the next year or so.

Time will tell,i always discount first months sales figures becuase early adopters will be anything so it distorts the true picture of how well it's doing,it's from now on,now the gloss is off it will tell how well its faring tbh.
