driving offences

Nearly 4 months ago now I got pulled by a copper for reading a text whilst driving (stupid I know) and issued a ticket which he said I would receive a letter about soon.

Only just today have I received the letter, with an offer of an awareness course or fixed penalty.

I was just wondering if there this a time frame on how long they have to issue the penalty. I've heard of this sort thing before with other tickets so thought with it being nearly 4 months I might be able to get out of it.

They have 6 months to summon you.

You're luckier than me mate - I was caught doing similar and had bloody Tango & Cash pull me over as if I was the biggest criminal on record. I had just come from a gym (not showered!) and probably looked incredibly dodgy but I got 3 points and a £70 fine.

do the awareness course

it's possible that if you got pulled in future for a different offence, ie going through red light/speeding that you can still do an awareness course for one of those as well and stilll avoid the points providing you haven't done the same awareness course previously

not that this would matter of course because you'll have learnt your lesson !!! that's the most important bit

Can they do you for reading a text at the traffic lights when your not moving?

I'll be honest, I do that all the time. I don't do it while actually driving though

yes mate, they can, not supposed to be using your phone whilst operating a motor vehicle
