Which is the whole point, news articles are generally only written from one perspective, there is no indication of how heavily she 'touched' the guardrail so comment can't be made in detail on this incident but the principle remains, you damage something you are liable for the repair.

seems you missed my point, if she only has a scratch on her bumper then the reinforced rail WILL NOT be damaged.
I would hit back with a claim for the distress caused by doing a 180 on a busy motorway due to the carriageway having oil on it, the contractors can then find whose responsible in their own time as if the maintanance of the highway is their responsibility.

Tit for Tat maybe ? There's a lawyer that will take it on I'm certain now that Abu Hamza has gone.

Sorry mate, went on a tangent, you're right if she didn't damage the rail and all she did was spin out then there should be no repair costs. A counter claim for emotional trauma cause by an oil spill not cleaned up would be the ay to go.

But, the article doesn't give any information on the damage caused which is typical journalism designed to create a polar opinion of support for the aggrieved party.

I'm personally shocked that a private govt contractor would overcharge the public for basic services.

Hey its a "fee" too so I'm assuming its pointless to challenge in court.

Seems to me that paying the private contractor is really the underlying issue here. Certainly, if you damage public property, you must pay the government agency that manages that property? That is also why we must buy auto insurance.

But 1800 to close the shoulder? What?
