Drinking Alone in Pubs

What are your thoughts on this?

Just been for tea and a few beers with my old man at the local and there was a fella there sat in his own in the middle of a ram packed pub. No newspaper, no smart phone browsing just sat there drinking pints only in his forties.

I find it upsetting me, my dad said he thinks its normal.

Dunno, just struck a chord thats all. You don't know what folk are going through.

I guess you don't really know if that particular bloke is happy or not though.

If being there makes him happy and he's doing no harm then no real issue I guess.

Fairly normal for a bloke to go for a pint on his own
His partner could have been shopping or such like and he was waiting to her.
He could have had a 2 hr wait for a train etc.
Might have just fancied a couple of pints after work.
In Ireland it's not very unusual.
A woman on her own in a bar is an extremely rare if not non existent sight

Been for plenty of pints on my own when I'm waiting for a train.

Phone is often dead too so no looking at that.

Agree, if I'm working late and miss the bus it's a half an hour till the next one. Whilst waiting might as well have a pint(s) in a warm pub.

Not a problem. Used to drink on my own most of the time when I was on the booze.

Yes I know there are many explanations as to why, I just worry about worst case scenario me. I felt like asking to come over but it's not my place.

Nothing worse than loneliness so I hope it was just due one of the reasons you have said.

Easily spotted , well groomed , phone in one hand bottle of water in the other.
Always on the look out for men on their own.

I enjoy a few pints on my own but in fairness never without a racing paper or my phone.

The Alt can be pretty ruthless otherwise, well at least until the card school opens!
