3Mil maybe its a little low but you never know. Arteta cost Real Sociedad more than twice as much than we paid for him because the manager didn't favor him.

I think Valencia is getting a new left winger over the transfer window anyway maybe they'll get desperate.

I wouldn't pay more than 4.5 mil for him though. However if we get him I'd rather it be on loan.

I wouldn't lay out his air fare, he is a two faced **** no matter what you all say. That arrogant, lying, deceitful [Poor language removed] in our changing room donning the blue, no thanks

New artical on him.....

Spurs and Everton in battle for Downing’s signature…
December 29, 2007

The Daily Mail reports that both Tottenham and Everton, two long-time admirers of Stewart Downing, are ready to battle for the Middlesbrough winger’s signature.
Apparently, after two years of negotiations a new Boro contract still remains unsigned by Downing, much to manager Gareth Southgate’s consternation who said:

“We have been negotiating for two years. It is not sorted and we have a problem. We have to sort it out.”

So Downing for Everton or Spurs, which club would suit him better?

I think moyes could get the best out of him, an could become a great player.

But Moyes said these stories were absolute rubbish and had no truth in them. Would that stop the [Poor language removed]-peddlers? Absolutely not.

After watching yesterdays shiite. we really do need a propper winger or two in the squad. think this lad fits the bill.

What about using faddy as part of the deal.Wer'nt boro looking at him.Could be a good deal all round. They need a striker we need a winger, both stalling on deals.Could work.

Boro ready to offload £10m Downing

Stewart Downing could be set to leave the Riverside if his contract talks continue to stall.
And that will alert Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle who have been monitoring the England winger's future.

Downing has been in talks with Boro chiefs over a new contract for more than a year but no agreement has been reached.

Downing intimated last month that he may have to move on if the contract row is not resolved, but Gareth Southgate is desperate to keep the winger, who scored in Boro's 2-1 win at Bristol City in the FA Cup.

Great idea sharpy, I'm not the biggest fan of Downing, but a deal with McFadinski going the other way would make it much, much, much more attractive!!

Nah not for me, prefare the way were playin at the moment with arteta and pienaar on the flanks. Think the way moyes plays is suited to a narrow midfireld with neville or baines pushin on ....... i'd much prefare to see us spend that sort of money on a mustard holding centre mid. Personally i wouldnt like to see arteta back in the middle of the park, he's far more effective out wide with more space to operate in :)

i agree, arteta out wide means hes unpredictable, he can do what he wants and switch wings with pienaar. we need more in the middle, think another player in the osman role.
