A "horrified" Aberdeenshire man has told how his dog was put down after being mauled by a seal when it went into the sea.

Matthew Will, 21, pulled three-year-old black Labrador Fly from the water near Newburgh.

However Mr Will said the extent of the dog's injuries left no option but destruction.

He said the "enormous" seal was "flinging Fly around" and pulling the dog under the waves.

Mr Will, of Inverugie, said he wanted the incident to serve as a warning to other dog owners of the possible dangers in the area.

He said he endured "anguish and horror".

Warning signs - reading 'Beware: seals may attack dogs in water' - had earlier been erected, but were vandalised and removed

Well McDonalds was shut for breakfast when Jock was up early the other day.. Sure he mentioned Aberdeen ?

I go fishing off the cost of Anglesey and have had grey seals come up to the boat to beg for fish - they're bloody huge to be fair. Dogs wouldn't stand much of a chance.

He must still be fuming over his divorce from Heidi.

Finners what are you playing at? A dog has died due to your incompetence. Maybe it's time for Little Felli to take over.
