Dog Owners though

Professor Toffee

On and on, over the hill and the craic is good
my parents always had a dog so I grew up with dogs ( mongrels) in my life
I'm comfortable with dogs even snappy and snarly ones
They generally go all waggy tailed when they encounter me on my walks
I don't have a dog and havent had a dog in the house since I got married 28 years ago
Dog owners though when they let their dogs off leads( if they were on them) to knock children over, charge around the place and defecate with unrestrained joy really really bother me. I hate discovering dog leavings on my boots when I get home.
Any others feel the urge to shout

Any owner who allows their dog off a lead with the knowledge that they can't control - in terms of calling them back or calming them down - shouldn't be allowed to let said dog off it's lead.

We've all seen the sad sacks in the park, the ones who pretend they're on the phone while their dogs have wandered off to have a poo and they ain't noticed a thing. They really are total cretins!

My neighbor lets their dog roam free. Finding doggy bombs in my yard (garden) ticks me off to no end.

Ive had a dog [different ones off course] since 1989,bar 3 weeks in may 2015,and the thing that gets on my nerves and annoys me is when i go on the field/park by us and someone comes on the field and has there dog running all over the place meaning you cant get yours on [almost doing it so you cant get on as though they own the field] incase of a dog attack etc on yours,or your on field already and they let it off without even looking whos on the field etc

I too have had dogs all my life and they really contribute to a happy home and family.

Yes, all dog owners should be responsible, keep their dogs on a lead, ensure they are well behaved, and clean up after them etc.

But...

I think there is an increasing campaign against dogs and dog ownership which is terrible to see.

I live in a built-up town and I sense a greater fear of dogs amongst children and the civil police are everywhere, ensuring you clean up your dogs mess. The concerned residents/nosy neighbour types.

Very very occasionally, I have forgotten to take a bag with me and there is nothing you can do then.

I have been scolded twice about this, once well, as I say, I had to apologise and take my public health lecture as best I could, and on the other occasion, the moron accused me in the wrong, he was just intent on a confrontation.

I would never scold anyone in public, particularly someone I didn't know. Live and let live, or curse under your breath if needs be.

Why people get so wound up about it is beyond me, you would think that dogs never inhabited the earth until recently. It never seemed to be an issue when I was a kid, and now its de rigeur for folk to get all worked up over it.

If there is a problem with a dog, usually it is to be found on the other end of the lead, if there is one.
