Does professional football attract idiots?

The problem is that even footballers in the lower leagues are so detached from the reality of normal everyday life. They operate within a bubble that's completely separate to large swathes of society.

You heard Adam Johnson admit in court how arrogant he'd become because of all the riches football provides. These lads do what they want, when they want and rarely ever hear the word no. It's inevitable that a fair few will end up doing stupid things because in their minds the rules everyone else plays by don't apply to them.

There's a few exceptions, Gary Neville and Carragher come across as being attached to reality or at least good at pretending they are.

Not really.

A lot of people I know have done something stupid within the last year, it just didn't make the newspapers.

EDIT: Not beat the living daylights out of someone, though.

I know if I were a professional footballer I'd have been plastered all over the front pages for years. They're young men with loads of money, what do people expect. The odd drunken shenanigans are to be expected.

The raping, and roasting, etc. are deplorable and obviously shouldn't be tolerated. Whether these incidents are higher among professional footballers I don't know as I haven't the statistics.
