Does Everton not understand that a 10 mil fee for Donovan would pay for itself ?

Did you used to support Man Utd when TH was there ?

Not so much...mainly because it's one of the BIG clubs that already had [and still has] so much worldwide acclaim, they didn't have that "underdog" patina I like in my sporting teams.

Although I should add, I did support MU over the other Big Clubs in the EPL while TH was with the Red Devils.

So when Donovan leaves and Tim Howard leaves or retires does that mean some of you won't support Everton anymore?

To be honest that is whats wrong with 'soccer' in the US. You guys tend to follow who ever is popular I.E. Donovan et all....

I admit that more and more kids are picking up soccer and so there are more families attending games that and right now immigration from Britian and Ireland to the US has risen so there is more of a demand for Football in the US.

As for FOX showing the game this Friday well that is just natural. There is no big US sports on this coming Friday and there was an advertisement incentive for them to try and get the game.

No one doubts that 'soccer' will get bigger in the US the fact the country alone engulfs the population of most of europe there will always be space for another sport. If more and more Europeans emmigrate west that will further fuel the popularity.

Even after all of that it is still light years behind and will be in terms of coverage and popularity. Especially with the growing number of American Football, Basketball and hockey fans there are in Europe especially Britian and with those organisations playing regular league games in these countries.

It is great to see our American brethern choose and support Everton and soccer in general. That can only be a good thing especially now that i call San Diego my home. I can watch more and more games and stay in touch with more soccer fans.

No. I came here because of the two of them (along with other factors), fell in love with club and the fans, and here to stay. I'm sure there are a ton like that.

I only watch Everton when Dovovan plays. I don't have any other strong connection to the team so there's really no interest otherwise. I don't see that as wrong. People follow teams that they have connections to. Most Americans didn't growth up with a local football club to become attached to and even today football gets little coverage here. If it was about popularity then we wouldn't be following football at all an instead we'd be LA Laker, Dallas Cowboy and NY Yankee fans. I'm an LA Galaxy fan because it was the closest MLS team to where I lived in Las Vegas and also the only MLS team that I could consistently see play. When I put a game on TV it was likely going to be the Galaxy playing and therefore over time I became familiar with and attached to the team.

Sign Donovan or Buddle and I'll try to watch every game I can and maybe over time I'll become a fan. Incidentally this is kind of how my wife and her father became MANU fans. They are Portuguese descendants (a connection) and got into a World Cup. One of the Portuguese players caught their attention and they followed him back to his club. They watched the club play and became fans and stayed fans even after that player left. It's pretty crazy when you consider they were a hardcore baseball family for decades and now they're all football fans paying zero attention to baseball.
