Does Billy Bragg = Marmite ?

I don't actually think marmite is actually a love it or hate it thing, if I'm honest.

A few people really really hate it and so marmite marketing ran with it being a love it or hate it whereas in real life most people either hate it or find it okay.

Went to see him at the local Labour Club, he was doing it as a fundraiser for Andy Burnham. Was a good night, my mate who is the spit of him went to school with Burnham and as soon as we walked in he came over and said "Oh my god, you look more like me than me" he got him to do his soundcheck as well. There's a video of Andy Burnham singing New England with Billy Bragg playing on a memory card somewhere, very grainy footage.

I've never, ever heard of him.

My first guess was that he was a character from The Beano or something.

Socialist songwriter and performer that HAS had an effect on the younger gen of labour MP's (that grew up listening to him in the 80's), and is often in backbench 'think tanks' and such like. He's very good mates with Andy Burnham.

Surprised at "never heard of him" tbh. it just shows that a few that are so called 'muso's' don't have that broad a spectrum in their catalogue.

He wrote 'New England' btw for Kirsty McColl.

"Between the Wars" is probably my favourite of his.
Lots of favourites tbh - often posted in the "What are you listening to?" thread. This is one - written after his Dad died.

saw him just after the BNP had been elected in 'his manor'. He was excellent value and fired up about ensuring fascism remains out ofthe UK.

Old school socialist.

Between the wars - classic

Many good tunes and one of the abiding themes of my my youth
