Just a bit of advice i'm after really, don't know if anyone on here plays Football regularly or would have any experience with it but here goes. I play Football 2-3 times a week and have done for years, back in November i sprained my ankle quite badly on the pitch. I couldn't walk properly for about 7-10 days, but returned to Football again in January. It was fine for a few months, and i had no pain whatsoever.

On the 28th April, i did it again, a lateral sprain to the same ankle, though i never got it assessed this time, and i'm still struggling to run or kick a ball without pain. Its also very stiff in the morning, still looks a little swollen and feels really weak. I've got a tournament coming up in a couple of weeks, i was just wondering if anyone knew of anything i could do to speed up my recovery.

Leeches. Doesn't sound like you'd be able / would be worth the risk to play in a fortnights time. But I like putting people down. In any case I'd go show it to a doc or a physio if it's been like that for well over a month.

Ah man, totally been here, feel your pain. Been plagued with a dodgy ankle for years, if you've got a competition coming up, I would rest it until then. Maybe see a physio if you can, but would probably cost a little.

I've just e-mailed a sports therapist near to where i am to see if theres anything they can do and what they charge etc. I returned to 7 a side Football last night and it was alright, though it still hurt when i put my laces through it, so i was basically jogging and side footing all game. I'm willing to try anything to be honest because i'd loathe to miss this tournament.

20mins hot water as hot as you can take it, then 20 mins ice, hot again then ice again and rest!
Hope it helps mate! Rub Volterol gel to the effected ankle before your footy and strap it up!

Fantastic, i'll try this, and i'll get hold of some of that Volterol stuff ! Cheers

Did it many years ago. Bad challenge in an 11 a-side ankle balooned up was on crutches for 2 weeks. Never been the same. Apparently no break a the time but I'm not convinced!

I had major problems with an ankle injury once upon a time. I used to run quite a bit and picked up an overpronation injury under the ankle bone (posterior tibial tendon). Couldn't shift it with rest and physio, and the effects of a cortisone injection only lasted a week or so. Even an op was only a minor success. But the pain just faded away over a few years.

That's not what you've got like - sounds like yours was a trauma rather than wear and tear.
