Do You Remember When...?

Player Valuation: £750k
Footballers walked up to the ground signing autographs in the street,
No players dared to wear their gloves, when it was too cold to feel your feet,
James Bond '007' was the only agent footballers really ever knew,
The referee just a man in black his name not the cue for a boo,
Players played loyally for the one club, to be a legend not just to make money
No such thing as a sub or rotation, just pitches more or less muddy,
Cameramen lay on the unused grass like a sniper at the side of the nets
Players played on with dislocated shoulders and threw in the odd broken neck.
You could buy a half-time newspaper while the match was still going on
'Stop Press' was the 'Breaking News' no Sky Sports News telethon,
The Teleprinter was eagerly anticipated each team had a chance to win more
Crackly transistors couldn't tap an app, they just provided the full time score,
The Pools coupon was a Saturday tradition, to see which teams had drawn again,
As all the games were played on a Saturday, not at 1 or 5 .... just 3 p.m.

I can. And getting back to the car after a match just in time for the results on Radio 2.

The only thing that I can remember is the sound of Sports Report and the teleprinter having to spell out the score if a team scored more than 7 lol

Yes, and when it stopped in the middle of a score, especially if it was one you were waiting for.

And there was a thing called tackling in football those days.

F.A Cup Final started at 8am with the build up

the letters around the walls with the half time scores and checking the program to see what match they referred to.
If it was REALLY cold, they let the goalies wear trackie bottoms.
fans helping to clear snow off the pitch

...the fella's with arms like Popeye carrying that advertising board around the pitch at half-time. The Boys Pen in Gwladys St, the arches behind the goals at Goodison, the cinema type music and one page programmes at Youth matches in the 60s, the supporters club on City Road, players not falling over, muddy pitches.

I watched the 85 cup winners cup final after the RS game last season to cheer myself up. The lack of about 500 different camera angles on replays took a little getting used to. The back pass rule or rather lack of had me waiting for Southall to be punished picking the ball up. Players strolling round with gold chains hanging out their shirts and rings on fingers not taped up. No tattoos and so many moustaches on show.
