Do socialists and Labour voters take the easy way out?

Not everyone is afforded the same start in life. A poor education through poor local state schools has a massive impact on the rest of someone’s life.

It’s easy enough to say ‘Do something about it’ but if you come from 3 or 4 generations who have all been poorly educated and live in a deprived area you know no different, it’s a vicious cycle. Location is also important, far more opportunities down south for steady well paid work. In Liverpool for example there just isn’t enough well paid jobs to support demand. Plenty of people are stuck in low paid often low security jobs through no fault of their own because they want and need to work. Part of that is poor decisions by local councils yes but it’s also down to sustained under investment by central government.

I grew up on some pretty tough streets and went to a state school. I fell in with the wrong crowd and was regularly playing truant and stuck in detention, so my life was on the rocks hence my socialist beliefs and belief that it was someone else’s fault for my own failures.

However I truly believe that the only person who can make things happen for you is you. Government ought to provide a solid foundation for you to build your life on but then you can take a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.
