Got some yellowing of my bedroom ceiling (fnarr fnar!)

Next to the en suite, we have had a faulty extractor fan which has never worked, so we shower with the door open, never been problem, now the ceiling has yellows slightly and in the loft there is moisture under the insulation, not loads but enough to warrant this thread and some painting and repairs, the top of the insulation is completely dry, so I've pulled it all back and left the 8/10 inch area which is wet to dry, put a plastic sheet over it to to catch any potential leak( not sure where the water came from, but the fact the insulation isn't wet on top makes me think moisture fro
Bathroom is condemsing the heat under it?)

*checks job, rubs chin, whistles, sucks in breath and says "it's gonna cost you that love, do it as cheap as i can". Then tell you i need to go out for materials. "Won't be too long love, have the kettle boiled for when i get back" Disappears for 3 hrs.

on a serious note, check roof for any loose, cracked or broken slates/tiles. Check loft for signs of leak, could be anywhere, water will run along purlings and joists and drip. There could be a leak in the seal on the extractor fan outlet on the roof, this will cause water to trickle down pipe and drip around extractor in ceiling. Don't think it will be through shower steam condensing. When you paint over staining use oil based paint (or a stain blocker paint) as an undercoat before you use emulsion. It will prevent stain bleeding through.

If problem persists, give me a shout and I'll come round and have a look. Work around kirkby regular so won't be a problem.

Hit it with a big hammer.

If the insulation is dry then it could just be the condensation rising and causing the moisture. We have an extractor fan in our bathroom despite having a decent sized window and around the seal of the bath there is discolouration.

I used to have lots of pics of Massey Fergusons all over my bedroom walls when I was younger. Grown out of it now though..... i'n now an Ex-Tractor Fan......................

*coat allready on*

Tommy wants to lock you in the bathroom and bum you where no one can hear your screams. Choose the sawdust option.

Tommy, say I had a similar problem, do you do calls to Bootle? x

Cheers all, thanks tommye. Appreciate that mate

The "offending water" is no directly 90 degrees to the floor panel next to the extractor fan, but not next to it, If that makes sense.

What confuses me is that the insulation is dry on top.

Will wait for the next down pour and check, the place is hopefully drying out for now.

for you I'll make a special exception sweet chics..!!

Maybe Degsy has a leak in his bath in oz and it lies in a direct line with your house so in theory when his house leaks from the bottom it travels through the earths core and enters your house through the foundations and then drips onto your ceiling from the floor( as you are upside down from degsys house), this would then explain why your insulation is only wet on the underside. Quite simple when you think about it logically mate.
