Divorce advice

Hi my brother is about to go through a potentially messy looking divorce. I need to help him get advice mainly on dividing assets, selling the house and maintenance payments. Solicitors costs are pretty expensive so would like to do a bit of research. Anyone know of any free advice services or similar? Thanks in advance

I don't think you'll get many straight answers mate, let's put it that way.

One of my best mates caught his missus going over the side a couple of years ago.

From the legal advice he took, the cards are stacked heavily in favour of the woman if there's kids involved, even if she is the one in the wrong.

Basically he's screwed if there's kids involved. It's damage limitation nothing more.

Solicitors will make it a nightmare on both sides, causing suspicion and lack of trust ( and boosting their fees considerably). Easiest way is to be amicable but that is easier said than done. Mine left me in a right mess, all loans, cedit cards were in my name as she was hopeless and couldn't get credit though she was happy to spend mine and left me to pay it all off. Has been a nightmare 5/6 years financially tbh but worth it to be free. Also just wanted my son to be ok and unaffected which he has been fine. Make kids the priority and not victims of a war.

Citizens advice have guidance and will normally give free advice. Check the links and organisations at the bottom of the page too.

I used to work for the Citizens Advice, they'd usually just point someone in the direction of a family solicitor. Things may have changed in the past few years, giving them a call would do no harm.
