Lescott took all the praise for that game, rightly or wrongly.

He wont go. Missed too many games and isnt playing for a top side to waltz in .

The players mentioned will go. No doubt about it

Presuming Terry is first choice, he's left-sided, so they're going to want a right-sided partner. That would put Cahill ahead of Lescott. I do agree that they're going to want versatile players because I don't think that they'll take more than four specialised centrebacks. Jones and Smalling are both very young. I think Jones might get in as understudy to Glen Johnson, but it would be too much of a risk to include Smalling as well. Cahill doesn't have vast experience himself, which is why I think they'll want someone with a bit more nous as cover. Dawson is out for the season. King could be a shout, but his injury troubles make him a gamble. So, as long as Jags is playing for us, I think he should get the nod for the Euros.

Cahills been getting lots of minutes in and is technically the better footballer. Hes also playing for Chelsea with Terry so thats a shoe in.

Jones, like smalling and lescott, can do more than one position at a high level. Youd be nuts not to take him for the options he gives.

We're going to need experience. Terry is fading and his head might not be right because of a tumultuous year at Chelsea and his impending trial. If we can't rely on him, then we need someone to step into the breach. I don't think you can expect Cahill, Lescott, Jones or Smalling to marshall the defence. I'd be surprised if they've got 30 caps between them. Jags doesn't either, but he's older and he's been in and around it for a reasonable amount of time.

Zero champions league experience where the others have.

He won't go, I can bet on it

Jags was our main man and now cant get a look in, good problem to have but a problem none the less.

Well it's interesting, we might be able to sell him (or maybe Heitinga, but in current form I prefer Heitinga) and with Distin still having some legs left we could keep a young one like Duffy as a cover and slowly bring him in.

Smalling, Jones and Lescott have only played a few group games this year and Cahill is only getting a taste now. If it was me picking the England squad I'd want someone established.

I think Moyes will play it fair.

Jagielka is out, from no fault of his own, but IMO Distin and Heitinga should keep the shirt untill 1 gets injured or suspended.

As to who I think should be our 1st choice, I honestly couldnt pick, Jagielka is a BEAST with his last ditch tackling, Distin is a speed demon and Johnny is just Johnny.

With the young Duffy in the wings, we have the CB postion locked down.

And theres always Yobo!!!

Its more than Jags. And they've played in big games for the title race.

Dont think hes shown himself to be above the ones mentioned this season, and hes been a bit poor IMO for us. Add the injury and struggle to get back into our 1st team...just can't see it

I don't think we should be picking our defence to facilitate someone's England chances. We should be picking it based upon form and fitness. And I don't recall Jags being stellar before injury or us keeping many clean sheets with him in the side. At the moment Heitinga is the main man and Distin seems to be building a good partnership with him. So he can sit it out and wait his chance, just like Johnny did.

Jags is a Moyes favourite. I think that he'll shoehorn him into the side one way or another. His recent form hasn't been amazing, but maybe he'll raise his game now that he's got some genuine pressure for his place?
