Vicious Mob Targets 'Worthy' Fundraisers
A gang screamed "worthy w******s" at three charity walkers before pelting them with stones and beating them up, leaving one with a horrendous gash on his face.

Gareth Cottrell was slashed with a key and suffered a wound that needed 10 stitches while his younger brother Fraser, aged just 15, and their friend Josh Fitzpatrick were mercilessly punched and kicked.
The vicious and unprovoked attack happened as the trio prepared for a gruelling 125-mile walk along the North Wales coastline to raise £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.
They had just passed a group of around 10 youngsters drinking cans of beer by a canal along their training route in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester.
One of the youths yelled the verbal taunt before pelting the walkers with stones as they tried to flee.

The gang caught up with the trio and launched their unprovoked attack.
Mr Cottrell, 26, said he noticed an older man aged around 40 approach them - but rather than help, the man waded in and slashed the walker's face with a key hidden in his hand.
Describing the attack as "crazy", the radio producer told the Daily Mail: "I just cannot believe you can be targeted by yobs simply for wanting to help others.
"I think fighting is a form of entertainment for these people.
"I'm a peaceful person. I don't fight, I don't swear or drink much... maybe they wanted to pick on us a bit."
Greater Manchester Police has confirmed it is investigating the assault.



So a guy in his 40's jumped in and slashed one of them in the face as well!!!

All of them want SERIOUS JAIL TIME.

It's a good job the Tories aren't slashing police funding and the amount of coppers on the beat....hold on....

Didn't Gordon Brown and his cronies already do that so that only 1/3 are actually "on the beat"... oh yes forgot about that didn't we Davek.
 
Labour increased police spending by 60% whilst in power. What they did with it was each forces responsibility. It wont be long now before the Tories turn to privatising much of the police forces responsibilities: run down funding and encourage security firms in. Oh what jolly japesters they are.

Did you not here that only 1/3 of police are actually on the streets? Too many specialist-type officers too many lots of things and not enough on the beat.

What so the three fund raisers training on a canal - deliberately provoked 10 members of a gang and a 40 year old man to do that then hey?

And as for those statistics I DO NOT IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM BELIEVE THEM.

They want to come here and see what I see every night. Its like ******* bosnia in the 90's here.


Seen something a local community "meeting" not so long ago. The police are EXPERT statistic gatherers and manipulators these days.

TELLING local residents that incidents went down !!! telling.

Actually it was weather that made the incidents go down, but they wouldn't be told that.


Those stats are a joke. Have seen the people who gather them in action.

I was thinking more the incentive given (targeted by yobs simply for wanting to help others), the chances are, it was a random, cowardly attack with no such specific incentive, and the random 40 year old man who got involved was probably a 21 year old meff with the gang and had just returned from around the corner from having a piss before wading in.
