Interested to get some opinions on this. When I was younger (don't worry, not going there!) one of my favourite bands was Lostprophets. They were the first band I saw live, bought their albums, t-shirts etc etc.

Anyways, cut to 5-years later and the lead singer (Ian Watkins) gets charged with child sex offences (BBC News article). At that point I still had songs on various Spotify playlists, iTunes libraries and CDs in my car. But i questioned if I should still be listening to them.

As the title suggests, this is just one example. There have been numerous bands/celebrities, but should that mean that everything they were associated with until then should be tainted?

In the example I gave for Lostprophets, they are a band, so should all members suffer for the actions of 1? And should I feel guilty for still enjoying their music?

Rolf Harris, Garry Glitter, Jimmy Saville etc at least are solo entertainers and can essentially contain their disgrace to themselves bar some collateral spill over to thr BBC etc. I doubt anyone is feeling upset they cannot watch re-runs of Animal Hospital or Jim'll Fix It, but you understand the idea. Imagine if a Will Smith type suddenly had a scandal revealed, would you feel ashamed to watch Fresh Prince or one of his amazing films?

I guess am asking basically, should the entire legacy of someone's career be swept under the carpet after being defamed in a serious scandal?

Pete Townsend of The Who came close to being disgraced but managed to explain himself. I bet there were some heavy discussions behind closed doors at Who Central about that at the time though.

The thing is a lot of the old blues numbers were about older guys chasing young lassies. Good Morning Little Schoolgirl comes to mind.

Fair point, but apply that to view to a band you like. Still the same outcome?

Well Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack was accused of being a paedo for quite some time before he was found to be innocent, not at one time did I ever think 'i cant listen to massive attack anymore'. Even if he'd have been guilty i still would have continued to listen to Mezzanine every other day.

I listen to several bands where members have been in prison for bad things (murder, arson etc) and I don't really care. If the music is good I'll listen to it, even though I don't support the band members acts.

Not sure I'd feel the same way if they were paedos though. Can't think of anything more disgusting.

The issue with the lost prophets is that it's the singer rather than a background member. If it was the bassist then it could be easily ignored but the fact it's the singer means you are essentially singing along with a paedo.

Their start something album I loved when I was younger , one of my favourite albums and shinobi was one of the first songs that really got me into rock and metal music. Sadly since the news broke he was guilty I haven't listened to them once.
