Disallowed Goal

I've just checked the rules and you definitely can't be offside from a corner.

It makes a mug of Howard Webb giving that as his explanation for disallowing Jagielka's 'goal' today on MOTD. Not that we deserved three points.

They're both as bad as each other. Webb could have overruled him, if he knew the rules. The issue has been brought up recently with the RS.

Watch as the ball comes in. The stoke player pushes Anichebe further offside too. I saw that and I was at the game behind the goal.

Terrible decision.

If you were going to be churlish you could debate whether Anichebe was interfering with play. He wasn't deliberately blocking the goalie or seeking to gain an advantage.

No not being churlish far from it...

I'm saying Anichebe is pushed when the ball comes in, as jags goes to header it....

I couldn't see anything wrong with it and I was 20foot away

I think that Anichebe was offside, at the moment the ball left Jags head.

I think that's why

There has to be an inquest into it. If you were Webb and you were in the dressing room after the game, you'd double check your facts before facing the cameras, wouldn't you? The head of the refs association must be tearing his hair out.

It would have only got our hopes up of overtaking the RS. The lads are clearly knackered. They've been playing catchup since the turn of the year. Maybe Moysie will now blood some of the kids against Portsmouth, as it's a meaningless game? It would be good to see Duffy and Baxter get a decent run out.

I'm not having a go at you. I mean for the sake of argument, you could open up that debate.

I just don't see how he can be offside as the ball was played back, from the corner. Weird but nothing we can do about it really.

Yes the ball was played back from the corner, but Jagielka headed it forward and Vic was in an offside position right in front of the keeper. Right decision, I thought.

Yeah, whether I like it or not, I think it might be the right decision.

Fukn ref. Fukn Linesman, the fukn useless ****s

The rules do state that a player can't be offside when recieving the ball 'directly' from a corner. I suppose they could use that angle to argue their way out of it. It does always seem to be us that they assert the letter of the law with though. Like when Johnson was penalised at Blackburn for being offside because there weren't two men between him and the goal.
