Director of Football can mean a lot of things. From making all transfers (e.g. Inter, Real Madrid) to just act as some kind of legendary ambassador (Bayern). Most go in between, though, having a hand in transfers, but mainly to suit the team to the manager's needs.

Joe Royle is possibly my all time favourite Evertonian...

I'll always remember the "dummies from prams" comment and his ability to wind up the RS

Yeah, he is brilliant. He should be the go-to man for 'legend's opinion' not Sharpy, Snodin, Ratcliffe, Goodlass, Southall, none of them even come close to Royle's competence and (in my eyes) status. Wish we heard from him more

Same here, love Big Joe. He's one of us. I think the likes of Joe Royle are the ones Kenwright turns to for football advice anyway.

My old man was made up when he signed for Bristol City. Scored 4 on his debut. I was there for that, then didnt score for weeks, until he got the winner against RS. Lovely man as well. He is well liked down here too.
