Diabetes, important info

There was no condescension intended in my reply. I stated the symptoms are curable, not the illness itself. There is an overwhelming body of evidence, and tons of testimonials from people with type 2 diabetes who have changed to a ketogenic diet and been symptom free. The heart actually runs better on ketones, ketogenic diets have shown a benefit for people with thyroid problems, and exercise (moderate - such as walking) helps sciatica. I know, I have severe sciatica.

You're concerns are perfectly valid, and I think exercise as a cure is vastly over prescribed. It's also damaging for people who are very overweight to be running around, ask anyone to shove a 50kg backpack on their back and go for a run and then ask them how their knees, ankles, hips, and back feel afterwards. Exercise also makes you hungry, it's appetite stimulating, which again is a problem for people who are over weight.

If you feed someone a diet free from processed foods, high in proteins, fats, vegetables, they wont be complaining their hungry. They'll be complaining they can't eat all that food.

If you're saying you've adopted a strict ketogenic diet and found no benefit, then fair enough. If you haven't tried a ketogenic diet for a few months, and by that I mean no cheating for two to three months, then you've not seen the benefits of it. If you have, then again, I'll totally understand your concerns and I genuinely mean no condescension in any of my replies.

Fair enough but two mates tried the ketogenic system you mention with one making no difference the other actually increased his sugars. It is all well and good for some people to quote what percentage factors apply to this that and the other, no one has asked me or any one I know. A high proportion of fad type foods produced by diet firms are unsuitable for diabetics, diet ones have sugar replacing fats whilst sugar free have fats replacing sugars. Most diabetic experts tell you to ignore such foods.

I have no intention of making myself seem victim of this illness but I do take exception on being told what I should have done years ago.............people were blissfully unaware. That said I honestly wish some cookery programmes on tv today would once in a while show dishes that would be more suitable for diabetics, fish being my favourite food and a high proportion of restaurants don't cater for people like me either although they will, on occasions, do so for ethnic minorities and vegans.

All that said my main beef is about how these firms get away with profiteering in this way, and as that goes I am a victim

If his sugars are going up, there would have to be some deviation from the diet going on. Blood sugar is the amount of glucose in the blood, he'd be running on ketones not glucose for fuel. His blood sugar simply wouldn't have a fuel source. Alcohol might be the main culprit, or simply undercounting his carbs or over estimating net carbs. Something is very fishy with your mates findings there, appreciate you can only go on what he's said though.

I'm in total agreement with you over the dietary implications, and people simply not being aware. Ironically what I was taught was healthy sports nutrition as a teenager/ early twenties person, was totally wrong and the opposite of what I should have been eating. There's a combination of a lack of information, and also total misinformation, that causes health problems. Telling someone it's their own fault simply doesn't help anyone.

The problem with the pharmaceutical industry is that the perfect drug doesn't actually cure anything, it just makes you come back for more, or create a need for you to need more drugs. That might sound a bit conspiracy theorist, but when I studied business ethics at University it opened my eyes to a lot of deliberate business practices that were very unethical.

Most of that I can relate to. Today's younger generations need to learn these facts or they will end up in the diabetic trap. As a kid I was kicking balls around, paper rounds, fishing etc, always active. Today kids are in sat at computers using the fittest fingers humanity has ever seen............that is the danger. My activity reduced when I started an office job with a culture of drinking both at dinner time after work. Mental tiredness can make people just want to sit and rest, the modern answer is to go to a gym, they really didn't exists in my day it was more like snooker, darts or trapping.
