As in the Oxford dictionary a derby is a match between two local teams. How is Madrid and Barcelona a derby?
It's not. It's a classic. The big game. A grudge match, whatever people want to call it. But not a derby.

People have always talked about regional derbies to differentiate them from local derbies. eg. North-East derby involving Newcastle, Sunderland and Boro. Lancashire derby Blackburn v Bolton etc or Yorkshire derby, Leeds v Sheff Wed/Utd etc., etc.
