watched arsenal v Chelsea and couldn'y see it as a derby as such. must be loads of teams in London so besides arsenal v spurs hard to see. local team is chester but shrewabury Hereford and now tranmere is classed as a derby. even teams 100's miles away Cardiff Swansea is as such. always thought teams in same town/city was a derby but?

There's also El Clasico- which is basically the two most successful teams in the country- it would be RS and Mancs in England. This normally is a pretty big game- but for each teams involved there are bigger games ( The Merseyside derby for the RS). Sometimes these games are the biggest games of the season- Barca and Real.

There's also derbies between teams historically great- Bayern and Monchengladbach. These teams may or may not be great right now- but there is still a massive amount of hatred between them.

Then of course- there's local derbies like the Merseyside derby, or the North London, the Belgrade derby, or the Rivière derby. These are the most fiercest fought derbies.

As for Chelsea Arsenal- it is a local derby, but just not the most local. It's like if we had 5 teams in Liverpool. Everton Liverpool would still be the biggest because we're so close and we have so much history- the other games would be big but not as big.

Or it could be the shitty Arsenal fans as usual.

Bristol City have tons of odd ones. The Rovers one is obvious, but also;

Swindon, Yeovil, Millwall, (yes, really), Cardiff, Newport, Cheltenham are all seen as derby matches down here.

Odd.

The so called southern derbies hyped up by the local media are a laugh
Bournemouth v Brighton about 100 miles apart.
That's just one example

The only two 'proper' derbies s in the Smoke are Spurs vs Woolwich & West Ham vs Millwall. The first one because they lied, cheated & bribed their way into our territory & the second because of dock strikes/scabs etc.
Spurs vs CFC or CFC vs QPR are 'big' games for either proximity or 'off field' reasons but not real derbies as such.
Apart from the London games, when i think derby i immediately think, Liverpool v Everton, NUFC v SAFC, MUFC v MCFC & Rangers v Celtic.
