you have to take the positives where you can after todays game
so
i thought that i had reached a maximum, but no ! i now hate kopites more today than i did yesterday.
i have lost what little respect i had for gerrard after his word to clattenburglar to get hibbert sent off (benitez was so embarrassed that he took him off !)
there must be something wrong with carragher in the head after todays drama queen histrionics.
kuyt makes peter beardsley look like tom cruise

on the minus side, i will have to keep back another days holiday for clattenburg along with those for collina and clive thomas so when they die i can have a days holiday to celebrate

For me the pluses were as follows:

Lescott continued to be outstanding, especially when we had 11 men as his runs forward were our main threat.
Yobo looked to be getting back to his best, although he was still a bit slow at times with some of his offside decisions.
Jagielka had his best game for the club so far (not hard) and hopefully his confidence will grow from here.
Osman had one of his better games today and showed some really neat touches.
Yakubu also put himself about more and caused their defence some problems. He's obviously still not 100% but signs are reasonable that he's improving.

If I was to be ultra-critical of the boys today, perhaps a tad unfair as they were generally outstanding, I still don't think Arteta is playing as well as he can. He's set some very high standards and he's not reaching them at the moment, tending to flit in and out of games. This could be that we can bypass him in midfield a bit and he needs all the moves to go through him to really shine. I expect more to come from him though with Cahill and Graveson returning.

I also didn't think it was Anichebe's best game. He put in a good shift and tried hard enough but didn't win many headers today. Given how he's bullied top class defences in the past he was below par today, hence why I was surprised when Yak was taken off before him.

the forwards for me, managing to control the long passes with their backs to goal, looked like both vic and yak have been practising bring the ball under control with their chests.

Jagielka will be at right back next week and Moyes will finally figure out that he's a defender and not a midfielder.

To be honest, I thought Jags was having a bit of a shocker with his passing. Enough for me to think that he'd get stick vs. Yakubu who's usually the lightning rod.

Ok my positives:

Lescott was like a man possesed- he was everywhere, and he had to be to cover Ossies position as well as Ossie was on Mascherano.

Arteta was better and at times the way he kept the ball was world class. His deliveries are always a threat.

Yakubu was better and you could see signs that he is getting fit and firing.

Jagielka put in some absolute menacing tackles, he tracked back well and looked like he could actually do a job in central midfield.

Stubbs won everything in the air and that cross for our goal was fantastic.

Moyes tactics worked well and deserved more.

For me Yobo looks shaky still and Ossies passing was pretty bad. But that is me being picky.

Bill can I just check- you were watching the same game as me?! Everton v Liverpool 20th October 2007? He did give a couple of passes away in the first 15 but hell so did half the team.

the positives from the match today -

- Neville showed his passion for the cliub by getting sent off.
- Gerrard finally realised that the baby isnt his.
- We passed it about abit more at the end of teh first half and beggining of the second.
- Yakubu was good today trying 2 overhead kicks and one half volley
- Osman actually had a GOOD game
- Lescott is king.
- Moyes proved to clatternberg why he shouldnt referee a match again!
- The yakubu/Anichebe partnership works great. Anichebe the target man to pass it on to yakubu. Both of them menacing up front.

Yeah.

In fact he made about three in a row that actually had me say out loud that if he didn't get it straightened out, he'd be getting all the stick this week instead of Yakubu.

Believe me, he gave the ball away more in the first 15 than the rest of the team combined.

Do you not agree that he turned it around and actually played pretty well for the rest of the game?

Oh yes, he did. He played very well from that point forward, especially in the 2nd half.

I was just thinking that if he had kept up along those same lines into the half, he might have been pulled. But he worked it out and all was fine.

Lescott was insane. Thinks that if needed he could be a hell of a striker. Maybe Moyes could try it out in the group stages if we clinich a spot in the final 32 early.

We stayed positive even after going down to 10 men.

That Phil Neville made a hell of a save.

That penalties are far from a gimmie with Timmy in goal (which will be one of the reason we have a long Europe run).

That its one more day closer to the return of Cahill and Gravesen.

POSITIVES;
* The game reinforced our hatred towards the reds (not that there was any doubt).
* Saw how crap Liverpool actually are and we should be looking to finish above them in the league (if only we could have some luck).
* Yakubu looked half decent (only half though).
* Hibbert and Neville both sent off which means they will be missing for a couple of games which inturn means we are going to start winning and going to stop leaking goals (TRUST ME). Lets just hope they dont just waltz straight back into the side.
