anybody been to any of the big derbies in european football?........inter v milan, dortmound v shalke, barca v real, galaatasaray v fernabache, hamburg v st pauli (probably more likley st pauli v rostock)......roma v lazio, theres a couple of big ones in croatia, belgrade, prague, holland, every country and city has at least one! how do you think they compere to our own derby against the r** s****?.......ive been to a few matches in europe meself, whenever the missus books a city break i always try to see what team is playing in the city and try to get to the match, very hard and expensive to get tickets for derby matches.........

Never been to a proper one.

One thing I'd do if I came into serious dough would be to go round the world watching all the big derbies. River plate would be my first stop too.

Celtic v Rangers (not very foreign I know) is the only other one I've been to beside Hibs v Hearts - just pure hatred. Always an entertaining experience.

Did Barca v Real at the Nou Camp in 2006. Not bad, but the game itself was a bit of an anti-climax and the atmosphere wasn't as intense as I'd expected.

Inter v Milan, August 2009. Again, the pre-match build-up was immense and as the kick-off drew closer it was a sight to behold inside the San Siro. Inter thumped them 4-0 so the Milan half of the stadium was silent.

Borussia Dortmund v Schalke 04, Feb 2011. Absolutelt superb! Friday night, winter match under the lights. The noise was out of this world. Packed to the rafters and I sat in one of the corner segment stands above the South Terrace. What a sight! The match ended 0-0, but was a great game and the lack of goals didn't do anything to dampen the atmosphere. Brilliant occasion.

Dynamo Kyiv v Shakhtar Dontesk. Done a few of these. Pish!

Over the next few seasons I'm promising to do the Rome derby, Genoa v Sampdoria, Red Star v Partizan Belgrade and maybe PSG v Marseille.

But the one true 'bucket list' game for me is the Superclassico: River v Boca. I will DEFFO do that one day, maybe towards the end of 2013.

I was in Krakow at the time I thought Cracovia v Wisla was going to be on. But they changed the game from a Saturday to a Monday when we were flying home because it happened to be their national bank holiday. Literally changed a bout a week before the match. Needless to say I was gutted.

Lucky bar steward... :p

Didn't River Plate get relegated?

I've done one South Coast Derby - was pretty intense to be fair. Probably wouldn't go again. In fact probably won't be able to!

yep,yer right,river were relegated,so i'll have to wait a while to get to that one,suits anyway,havnt a bean!

Hercules v Elche. The big one in the province of Alicante. 25,000 fans who'd rather be watching Madrid or Barça.

Funny thing about correct nomenclature for clubs. I learned ages ago that Inter v Milan is the correct form and not Inter Milan v AC Milan (which is a bit like saying Chelsea London v FC Arsenal). In Spain it's Real Madrid or more normally, abbreviated to Madrid (Real is for Real Sociedad). There's probably a more correct form to refer to clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Partizan Belgrade etc but I've no idea.

Have done; Lazio v Roma, Sparta v Slavia, Rangers v Celtic, Hibs v Hearts, Real Madrid v Barca and although not exactly derbies; Benfica v Boavista and Real Betis v Mallorca.
Hoping to do Samp v Genoa and the Milan derby at some point. Plenty of London derbies but for me the only proper ones are Arse v Spuz and West Ham v Millwall, not done either of those. Only Merseyside derby I've seen was the recent semi final and Wembley fecks up any kind of proper atmosphere so I don't really count it as a "normal" derby. For me a true "derby" is a same city game so Sheffield, Bristol, Manchester,Birmingham and Stoke to go.

Bflefc how do you get tix?!

Easy enough - far easier than you'd expect most of the time.

For Barca v Real we paid a bit of a wedge to a tout the day before the game. I think it was around €200 or €250 each, but we flew out specifically for el classico and had planned it for ages so didn't bother about the cost within reason.

For the Milan derby, one of my mates registered as an overseas Member the week of the game and tickets went on sale to such members via the club website about 3 or 4 days before the game. Amazingly, they hardly sell out in-toto - even for the derby.

Dortmund v Schalke we managed to get 2 tickets from the club ticket office (via some arse-licking e-mails!), but the other 2 lads had to get theirs from the German version of that ticket re-sale website (viagogo or something). So, 2 tickets at face and 2 at a higher price but we split the costs between all 4 of us so it didn't work out too much more than face per ticket.
