Depth of our squad

Just looking at the article on footy365 and they are looking at all the first team players in the Premiership who haven't made the bench yet.

Scroll down to Everton for the true depth we have in our squad.

I think that's because they are all injured.

But I take your point. The fact that we are playing a 19 year old CB in the left back position against the future champions tells us how strong our bench is. There are some huge gaps in cover.

Think that's more to do with luck than anything though. Baines is injured, Oviedo was injured, Garbutt was injured. Who are Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal's 3rd and 4th choice left backs? I'm sure they'd have to do the same.

Look at Arsenal's second string defence the other night. They were terrible in the first half.

Two senior left backs are injured, the England under 21 left back is injured, as is the young centre back who can play left back. That Browning had to play there tells us bugger all about our depth. Are you saying we should have 5 players in every position just in case?

It's true we have been unlucky with injuries. We were down to the 5th choice left back for the second half against City.

Quoting myself, but actually possibly the 6th choice as I'd rather Barry play there instead of Browning.

This list actually specifies the uninjured players who haven't featured. Basically it lists players who are out of favour at various clubs. We are so threadbare that we cannot afford such luxuries. Even though Kevin Mirallas seems to have done something to annoy RM. Last season we would probably only had Distin who would feature here. People say we need three players before the window shuts, i'd argue that we need at least five.

Kenwright out, Bruce in!

If we didn't have so many sick notes we would be fine but realistically we can't increase the size of our squad before binning some of them. Although it doesn't help when Martinez gives them new contracts.

Is this definitely as bad as it seems? How many more players do Arsenal, for example, have in their squad? I'm just thinking maybe we have a particularly bad injury problem rather than a depth one (apart from at centre back). Quality of depth, on the other hand, is another issue...
