Just had the worst experience of this with the NHS - it may differ from hospital to Hospital - but IMO the discrimination against vulnerable aged persons with either disease by the ambulance crew plus A&E is out there if they have a physical complaint - they blame it on the above illnesses - Plus they convince you that's the underlying problem not anything physical that is wrong with your parents or in-laws -

My wife & I now feel guilty we listened to them plus our GP -

In a long history of events of 20 ambulance calls by a care line on her behalf in the last two weeks - my mother-in-law 88 years old in 7 days time - after have water around her heart undiagnosed for months finally went into A&E as a sole paramedic diagnosed the problem last Monday as her Heart was failing - she had an ambulance that am + nothing wrong .....

A&E phoned us at 6 am to state she indeed had heart trouble that could be dealt with & he would get her on a cardiac ward the next day - a pig of an AE nurse we telephoned ageism was used SIX times - can we have an extension to telephone you back on A&E - no I have 200 hundred patients to look after ......

Following morning 5.15 am a nurse again from A&E telephoned upset she had let my mother-in-law fall & she has broken her wrist & hip ...

We both went ballistic as she stated oh i just looked at her file not good on her feet - no walking stick frame or Zimmer frame provided or bed rails she has at her own home -

She is now fighting for her life in orthopaedics since my wife lodged an official complaint with the trust p-

We feel guilty for trusting the care as slight Dementia & Alzheimer's was used as an excuse for proper treatment & we were gullible to trust them ....

Rant over - we are not after money just good continuous NHS care if she pulls through, because I feel she will be in a nursing home .....

sorry to hear all that joey. The NHS is a mess and the pandemic has been used as an excuse for most of its ‘struggles’

My partners grandmother was in hospital a few months back (she has since passed away) and she was the same, very poor on her feet yet the porter let her walk down the corridor with a stick.. He went through a door and let it swing back hitting grandma, who must have only weighed 6 stone and it floored her breaking her wrist and also hip!! We were absolutely livid with rage!!

That's disgusting - that's why I posted this as medics seem to discriminate against old people in some cases - we feel sick that we believed them & because of that stigma of ageism we may now lose her - we feel guilty that we trusted them ......

Sorry to hear this. We had this with my Grandad who suffered a Stroke at 80, it felt like the NHS just write you off after a certain age.

That's horrible Joey. Heart goes out to you and your missus.

My missus is a nurse and I do question why they wouldn't have her on what they call fall precautions, regardless of how well they read her history, if she was 87 ffs.

If she's in her 80s and a fall risk then the bed guards should have been up to prevent her getting our of the bed and a fall happening imo.

It's a lottery I know & most Nurses are great - but we had a load of events from A&E before that promises unbroken - since we have logged an official complaint - they are doing somersaults, 14 telephone calls today of kindness & apologies - the ward has taken a mobile is in a mobile telephone provided for her etc - too little too late IMO - we were promised cardiology ward after a nice consultant telephoned us at 6-15 am as it was water around her heart .....
She is having surgery tomorrow on her broken hip even the consultant telephoned us - to explain its touch & go ......

Arse-covering exercise to persuade you not to make a formal complaint Joe
