Player Valuation: £40m
Shearer is the latest voice to say that England's defence is the weaklink and that it's much the worse for having no John Terry.

Jags' international record:

Peru 3-0
Germany 0-1 He partnered Smalling
Poland 2-0
Montenegro 4-1 They only had 2 shots on target.
Ukraine 0-0
Moldova 4-0
Scotland 3-2 They also only had 2 shots on target.
Brazil 2-2 Alongside Cahill he managed to keep the score down in Rio.
Ireland 1-1
Poland 1-1 He partnered Lescott.
San Marino 5-0
Ukraine 1-1 He played alongside Lescott.
Italy 2-1 He scored the opening goal.
Belgium 1-0 He came on for Terry after 70 minutes.
Norway 1-0
Spain 1-0 He played with Lescott.
Ghana 1-1
Wales 2-0 He came on with a minute remaining.
France 1-2 He played at right back and there were a host of substitutions.
Switzerland 3-1
Bulgaria 4-0 Dawson started the match alongside him.
Hungary 2-1
Ukraine 2-1 An 88th minute sub for Ferdinand.
Spain 0-2 He was brought off at half-time.
Trinidad 3-0 He came on at half-time to make his debut.

His record is P25 W16 D6 L3 A18 CS11.

So he has a clean sheet record of 44%. He's played a key role in beating Italy and shutting out the World and European Champions Spain. On the rare occasions when he has suffered defeat it's been because he's had an inexperienced partner (Smalling), he's been played out of position (right back) or he's been brought off while we were still in the game (it was only 1-0 against Spain).

He's been handicapped by having numerous partners (Dawson, Smalling, Lescott, Terry and Cahill) and having to play on his unfavoured side of the defence.

Just looking back at England v Germany in the 2010 World Cup to remind myself how amazing Terry was in his prime:

Goal 1. Kick from their 'keeper goes over everyone and Upson is left chasing back trying to hold off Klose.
Goal 2. Podolski has the freedom of the box in the right back position. JT decides that getting back on the line or closing down the player aren't good options and marks space instead.
Goal 3 & 4 were counter-attacks. It looks like Lampard got back quicker than him for the third and he may not have even been in his own half when the fourth went in.

You misunderstand bone..... I despise the DJ beater with all my heart and soul.... Some on here though.... Well, I won't go there for the sake of harmony of the forum.
