Dear David,

Today's performance on the whole was not too bad, we were robbed and by viewing the villa forums the wholly agree.

However I feel this could have been avoided by doing something a little crazy... PLAYING A STRIKER!!!

Cahill is not a striker and he offers nothing to the team but an increased foul ratio, the teams balance is seriously effected by playing him. Cahill is past his best and his qualities (or lack of) are now well known by all teams in the premiership.

We had two forwards on the bench, and when one finally arrived on the pitch he gave the team a better balance and we actually looked a little more dangerous. Villa are not a big team and we should be playing two up top against poorer position like this.

The answer to our poor goal return is undoubtedly the fact old, past it midfielders are given a strikers role for no good reason.

Our defence does my head in, we look so solid but likely to have a couple of slack moments during the game that we'll concede from. First goal was poor from the defence/midfield in allowing that much space and time on the edge of the box. Second goal was Howard not coming from his line, it was in his six yard box. That should be his all day whether it's a catch or punch.

our defence just back off players running at them way to much sometimes, they need to go in for the tackle and stop waiting for the shot 1st,its almost like the 1st shot on target will be or nearly end up as a goal against us,oh and jagielka nearly give me an heart attack in injury time when he nearly give the ball away which would have been a one on one for villa.

Distin snuffed Agbonlahor like Geoff Hurst on Pele today.

geoff hurst played center forward ,dont you mean bobby moore

You know, you might just be right. Lack of oxygen to my tiny brain has mixed up my thinking, fortunately I am only missing a bit of air because I am laughing so hard at the excuse of a bunch of protesters giving it the 'big I am'.

A bigger bunch of jokers than the Norwegians that fly in for them over the way.

This is the most Meltish thread I've seen on here for some time.... about five minutes.

Load of jarg too.

It's so annoying that as soon as our midfield looks positive and capable of creating goals up front, the defensive part of it becomes non existent so I have to disagree with those who say the "balance" of the side was right today on that point. However I still think it was a great performance. The one touch football was a joy. I can't believe they've done that to us again though. What is it about us and giving away leads at Villa? When we eventually beat them in the league I'm genuinely going to strum one out it's been so long.

We do have balance on the basis of today.

We just don't have a player that sits in front of the back 4. And I do think Jags/Distin/Hibbo all have a mistake in them. Jags is turning into Yobo for me, I worry at his panic clearences and shocking ball control

And I have no probs with petrovs goal. Rodders went at him quick and he was a waaay way out, good first touch and pin point hit

Very true.

Because it's what happens to our other strikers. Cahill just did the role better because of his work rate.

Its how we are set up and play.

I only brought it up because Vellios had 2 good chances in 10 mins,Thats why in my view you should play a striker

"We were robbed" is not good enough as we seem to be robbed year in year out by this lot. We have a mental block against them and Moyes has not been able to get us past it.
