Daylight savings.

Should changing time by an hour twice a year continue?

  • Yes

  • No

  • Just put clocks back half an hour this time and never touch them again.

If I agreed with you, we’d both be wrong.
European vote a while back said that the practice would be abolished but countries could if they wanted to continue doing it. The Irish government has said they'll do what the UK are doing to avoid 2 time zones on the island for almost half a year.

I kind of understand it. It wouldn't get bright to near 10am in the North of Scotland and thats not ideal.

I quite like winter football where it gets dark around half time as well

I always thought it was to benefit farmers for some reason
A common fallacy although it does aid them to some extent. I remember reading an article about it and there's no real singular reason or consensus.

From recollection, the points were:
  • Allowing more opportunities for the enjoyment of natural light,
  • Saving energy due to less reliance on artificial light when awake,
  • Later on, it has aided farming fields earlier.
  • Understanding of the benefits of Vitamin D* and mental health
*Apparently, the latter isn't absorbed as well (or at all) during Winter due to it being part of a natural cycle.

Surely it is the other way around, and we change from GMT to BST in March, meaning that winter time would be the norm?
This
Everybody manages in a normal GMT December winter
A BST June sunrise is 0442
In a GMT June sunrise would be 0342

My feeling is there is no goldilock solution that will not just swap problems for North and South portions of the country

My verdict...No Change.

I'm pro it, though it really doesn't matter here. It's going to effing dark again for 3-4 months. Like it's sunshine lollipops for 3-4 months in the "summer"time (define a Finnish summer. Well... This year it was an ok Tuesday).
