Yeah but managers role in the transfer market is no longer as important hence Steve Walsh's role. What's becoming more important is their ability as a coach, something Unsworth excels at.

Never thought of it like that.. but your right IMO... unsy would certainly play a pressing game and have the players at it and fighting for the shirt.... and I think he knows how to get players confident and I imagine that his players respect him a lot

Really intrigued to why he is qualified to manage a club as big as Everton. Go! Let's just give the job to any half decent human who wore the shirt in our most barren spell in our history. All those trophies make him incredibly qualified.
...because he's managed these players before at first team level and below, and with distinction. He has vast experience now working worth quality players and he has the respect of the playing staff. Would it be ideal if he went out and proved himself at a Championship side or smaller PL side? Yes. But then he'd be out of the fold then and the timing would probably be that we wouldn't require him at that point and he'd be lost to another similar sized club to us. So why take that risk? When this feller leaves put Unsworth in as a caretaker and see how he progresses. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

The bonus with Unsy is I genuinely think he'd leave any club in the world to be at Everton. If we ever want him as manager, he'll come.

Maybe, but I dont think this manager stays around for a long time, so it might be best if he sticks around and gets promoted from within straight away. I think he was unlucky last time around. Only a new owner wanting to make a vanity appointment stood in his way. Ordinarily before that takeover Unsworth would have been right in the frame.

It's interesting how he's grown in his U23s role. Last season he initially struggled a bit with all the players going out on loan , half hearted 1st teamers playing a few games etc. But he got to grips with this , sorted out the defensive side and we finished the season very strongly in 3rd place I think. This season he's added an attacking impetus to the team, last time I looked we were top goalscorers in the U23s league as well as having the best defence. He's done it by spreading the goals around too , Niasse and DCL have bagged about 7 each , but he's got people like Harry Charsley scoring more too. The real strength is the defence, I can't keep track of the number of centre back and back four combinations he's used , chopping and changing the side as players come back from injury , players move up to the first team or move on a loan deal. When he's had a competitive side they've rarely played poorly in the league, they've been caught out a few times in Cup-thingys with weaker sides. He's clearly a coach with talent.

I've just watched the interview with Unsy and Jamie Hoyland , a relatively new U23s scout, on the OS. It adds a bit more pieces to the jigsaw. Although Walsh is in charge of scouting Unsy spoke with him and said he wanted Hoyland in as a specific U23s scout and he's been backed by Walsh on that. There's also an interesting snippet about Unsy and Hoyland watching recent signing Donkor on a number of occasions. The board clearly trust Unsy when he says he wants a certain player for his U23s who also has the potential to eventually become a first team player , he's added Bassala Sambou and Calvert-Lewin this way in the past 12 months, maybe Matty Foulds too , not sure if that was Sheedy though. Looking at the prices young England u20s forwards go for you could probabaly add £5mill to DCL s price tag already from the £1.5 mill we paid. From the interview the passion and enjoyment he has for his job shine through.
