David Bentley broke down in tears as he announced his retirement from football at the age of 29.

The former Arsenal, Tottenham, Norwich and Blackburn midfielder started crying during an interview on Sky Sports after he admitted he had “fallen out of love with the game”.

The former England international, who won seven caps in 2007 and 2008, but had not played for over a year after a spell in Russia with FC Rostov, said he social media had made football boring.

Always a bit pants, never what he was expected to be, but I like the reasoning he's given.
About time people pointed out from the inside of the game how utterly predictable football is these days.

You'd think there would be enough examples now of players going to 'big' clubs and rotting away in the reserves for the flow to cease. I guess between them and their agents they have sufficient egos to think they'll hit the big time. Shame that whatever talent he did have was left to fritter away for so long he's drifted out of the game. Joe Cole has had a similarly dramatic decline.

You can't buy away your health or personal issues, so whilst he may be rolling in it, I'm sure there's some mental issues at hand, the first I can think of is the pressure, he was Beckham's heir according to the hype, and he failed to deliver. I have sympathy for him.

no its code for earning so much money i forgot what i loved about it, fair play to him.
Fair play to him?

He had what millions of kids dream of and he blew it. He had the talent so it must have been down to his attitude, commitment, discipline or whatever. Either way, he crapped out.
