I'd well hit him for whiplash.
I go up and down I-405 all the time, and the carpool lane is actually quite dangerous. Inches from the other lane, but moving usually twice as fast as the regular lanes mean when someone breaks down in the carpool it isn't pretty.
But yeah, 2 of the busiest intersections in the world are on the 405....the 101 and 405 interchange and the 10 and 405. And they are about 20 miles from each other. Traffic is awful.
