Played for the club
Captained the club
Coached the club
Managed the club
Won the League with the club
Won the FA Cup for the club
Played for his country
And played against his country

Respect. Waggy is a Top Blue and was hard as nails - you ask any of the players who played with him - any bother during the game or after, or on a session or away trip, the Captain sorted it.

He could share some tales I reckon but would never utter a word that'd harm the Blues. Underrated? You bet.

We could do with a few more like that, real men, proud men.

I remember playing Newcastle in the FA Cup in I think was 95. I had a tenner on him to score the first goal. 33/1. Get in. By the way, all the winnings got spent that night. Happy days

I think the club need to do some sort of commemoration for the 5 men, who climbed the Wembley steps as FA Cup winning Everton captains.

I think the club needs to stop living on its past and plastering every inch of Goodison with memories from the last century ...... ask Billy Liar what its like to be the longest serving trophyless chairman at the club?

Everton FC has suffered a managed decline since the 80s, its time to stop talking about the past and create a winning team today.

Top bloke and a Top Blue.
I can't think of anything else to praise him about that's not already been said!
Great thread people!!

I sort of see your point however I come down on the side of cork here.

And why have a history if we never celebrate it? We have one of the best too.

Was he a top gooser too?

If I recall correctly there were some funny stories involving some brasses.

I agree with most of what you say but we are a club with a great history and i see nothing wrong with celebrating it.We celebrate the past and embrace the future.I think some sort of tribute to the 5 winning Everton captains who climbed the Wembley steps would be a very fitting thing to do.
