Saw there is an article on him in the next edition of the Evertonian,just my opinion but possibly one of the most underrated players in our history,part of the glory days, had a tough time establishing himself in Degsys place initially, but what a skipper and not in a ranting type of way, led by example, on countless occasions I can recall him pushing his body to the limit with injuries, even playing with strapping for cracked ribs, yeah a title winner and FA Cup winner captaining the side but for me Waggys greatest achievement(alongside Big Nev and Peter Beardsley) was maintaining our top flight status with quite possibly the worst Everton side I've seen in the early 1990's.

Players with his commitment don't exist in the Premier League any more. Can you imagine what the club's physio, sports scientists, doctor's etc. would have to say if a modern player said "strap up my broken ribs, I'm playing".

I know mate,really tough for him initially,looking back though,Degsy suffered with his knees and his career was sporadic at best when he left us so Howard knew his players better than us I suppose​

Watson, meanwhile, is now Newcastle United’s Under-18s manager, following spells as manager of Tranmere Rovers, as scout for Birmingham City and youth coach at Wigan Athletic.

Me too.

A bit like Southall really, he's been sidelined by the club for whatever reason.

You think of Sharp, Snodin and Stuart as the club ambassadors - not knocking them like, but Watson played for us for 15 years and was the last EFC captain to lift a trophy for the club, winning the FA Cup, and before that the league title too.

The lack of recognition for his efforts at the club is actually quite poor.
