....smiling here because I remember his famous 'tackle' on Jimmy Husband at Goodison. Not sure of the year but the incident is etched in my memory. He was a tough man, just ask Jimmy Husband.
My old dad always went on about that Eggs,I believe it was a League Cup tie at Goodison in 1968,my old fella reckoned Jimmy was never the same player after Mackays "assault" in his own words, all the same a great player and RIP.

Remember that mate,Jimmy Husband came down like a rag doll,it was worth 5/6 red cards, your arl fella was right, never really recovered after that.

Was the turning point in Derby's fortunes when Peter Taylor convinced Clough to take a punt on him

RIP

He was Derby County then youre right. Cracking side that Durban, Todd, McFarlane, Hector even tiny Les Green the goalie. Saw Howard Kendall score a cracker for us at the Baseball Ground in a defeat 69/70...overloaded crowd so they put us kids by the corner flag...my big bro who took me saw his arse when Ma saw it on Match of the Day later (she didn't know of course...he'd said don't tell her you had to sit on the pitch) Its on youtube too !

Just read an article on the Echo website mate, apparently in his autobiography Mackay reckoned the most skilful centre forward he payed with was our own Alex Young at Hearts, some tribute considering he played with Jimmy Greaves at Spurs and Denis Law with Scotland:)

....interesting article in that earlier link, Dario. Husband said it was a dreadful tackle but he actually came back and scored 20 goals that season. I was at the game, remember Husband on the ground and McKay trotting away. Amazing barrel chest on him.

Yeah he did Eggs then got a title medal the season after,I think from the Mackay incident he became very injury prone though and never really fulfilled his early potential, puts me in mind of Marwood on Inchy,Inchy came back but I always felt his wings had been clipped after that.

.....yep, thinking Paul Bracewell as well in a tackle by Billy whatshisname. Bracewell was at the top of his game and really struggled to get back. Perhaps it's a bonus of the modern game that there is less emphasis on tackling and better medical care.

Whitehurst, wasn't fit to be on the same pitch as Brace.

The tackle on Husband was an absolute disgrace. Anyone doing that can never be labelled a great.

I have to disagree with the comments that Husband was never the same after it. He didn't lose any of his speed -- and basically that's all he had.
