He’s started going on about cancel culture and is getting quite eggy with his “I will not be summoned” comments.

I’m not offended by his stance, just really not onboard this overhyping of cancel culture, especially not from massively popular millionaire comedians… gervais does it as well (to a much larger extent) and it’s proper tedious IMO.

Does it not speak volumes that comedians are vocal about it?

I know you are downplaying it but comedians these days are less jokesters and more commentators to society , or at least the more famous ones are.

So if they feel the need to talk about it, doesn't that make it bigger than how you describe it?

I have no time for the trans debate because it’s completely toxic on both sides, but it’s obvious people are antagonising them knowing the reaction it will get so they can try and make themselves some sort of comedic martyr.

He should be above doing this sort of thing. Then again, his last special was pretty terrible so he’s probably ran out of ideas and being ‘controversial’ is the easiest way for him to stay relevant these days.

Facism was an actual thing that caused the death of hundreds and millions of people.

Cancel culture is nothing but a hashtag that people jump on.

If people care so much about freedom of speech then why are they so offended when a group of people speak out?

That's the main thing isn't it. It's just an easy, edgy way to make a few jokes and some money.

Freedom of speech!!!! Exists and that's completely fine but if you can say whenever you like, you should accept other people's freedom to be against it

lol I haven’t noticed any difference in what I can say or do to be honest. Comparing to fascism is a bit crackers imo. I would say ‘cancel culture’ or whatever it is meant to be, is very low down the list of things that we should be concerned with right now. It’s a big hoo ha of nothingness

It's just a rebranded version of people phoning up OFCOM to complain about a TV show they were offended by... been going on for decades. It's a bit silly but not really worth putting much attention into.

There will no doubt have been some cases of people being unfairly 'cancelled' and losing their jobs or whatever but its not some widespread epidemic like some make out. Also if you look at a list of people who claim the title of 'cancelled' they tend to be massive bell ends and usually they aren't even cancelled hence why you're still hearing from them... I cant think of many sound people who have been cancelled out of existence, maybe someone could name some ?
