Dave Chappelle

First off, I'm a huge fan of his work. The man is intelligent, creative and funny as fcuk. He is a pioneer for stand up and comedy in general. He is also a family man, who walked away from fame and fortune in 2004/5 at the peak of his career. So definitely an interesting individual.

He's had a series of Netflix stand up specials in recent years, where he has managed to upset a few people. The group that has taken most offence is the LGBTQ and in particular the Trans community. Having previously enraged them, he has upset them again by bringing up their situation on the latest show, the closer.

Within minutes of it streaming, there was the usual backlash. Media stories aplenty about how Netflix execs and employees even, who demanded it was pulled. One in particular taking to twitter to air their digust.

And yet if anyone had bothered to actually watch it and listen to him, he makes a perfectly sound opinion. And this backlash is exactly the kind of thing he talks about and essentially predicted.

He is funny and most importantly he speaks the truth. Discuss.

Not found him laugh out loud funny in quite a while tbh and wasn't overly impressed with his Netflix specials. Still a legend for his earlier work though.

What I also found interesting is that all this has happened while Jon Gruden, an NFL coach was finally fired yesterday. I found it interesting that he made racist comments about a black man in an email and nothing happened. 5 days later or so, more more emails come out in which he calls the commissioner of the NFL a fa****... he was fired/resigned within a couple hours.

He does have a point. I like his stand up a ton, but I grew up watching him going back to blue streak when I was a kid. I didn't really enjoy half baked at 6 lol.

His show on Comedy Central was groundbreaking and brilliant.

If you have a chance look for him and Maya Angelou's on an episode Iconoclasts. It's a brilliant episode of that show. You can tell how intimidated he was by Maya. She was such a treasure.

Agree, He has been side splitting funny in the past. But the Netflix specials were up and down for me. A couple were very good a couple not so.

I think his anger at the industry is blinding him. And he has smoked faaaaaaar too much weed.
