in memoriam - 1965-2024
Been away for a while, but couldnt see a thread for Darren. What a terrific performance on the last day, and very emotional on the walk up the 18th. Couldnt happen to a nicer guy. (apparently he follows the dark side, but happy to forgive him that).

Heard that Graham Mcdowell texted him saying, "congratulations on being the first golfer from NI to win a major in over 3 weeks!"

Aye, I said to my NI missus before the last round had started that all Darren had to do was play to level par or one under and the Jug would be his, even though Mickelson was plundering the birdies like there was no tomorrow. Worthy winner IMO.

"Couldn't happen to a nicer guy" is a phrase often used, but in this case it's true.
I liked the bit in his speech about his late wife watching down from above. You'd have to be a hard bugger not to have found that touching.

Going into the last day I wasn sure whether or not he would do it , but once Mickelson challenge hit the buffers he pretty much coasted home , handled the situation brilliantly .

As far out as 200/1 with some bookmakers to win it , a well deserved major for one of golfs most popular players .

Well played Darren .
