Danny Welbeck, fail.

I'm not saying Lambert is amazing by the way, but the lad has earned a chance

It can't be easy to score that many goals for a team lower down the table. You get fewer chances due to having to deal with more offensive pressure and also a slightly worse service than the opposition

I always felt the same with Kevin Phillips

He scored loads of goals with Nial Quinn feeding him. Imagine what he could have done with Beckham and co providing the service

I always wanted us to sign K-Phillz... proper class that lad. Steve Bull was another one who never got a fair crack of the whip because he played for wolves, I know he was in the first division a fair bit but the man was a machine.

Truth. To use a more colloquial example - why did Osman have to wait till he was 31 to get an England cap when martin kelly apparently deserved one at 21? my assumption is that it is the badge on his shirt..... I wonder why england appear to be in a state of atrophy.
you do realise martin kelly has 5* potential lad on FM?

Just goes to show how rubbish the English forwards are at the moment that he's anywhere near the squad. Oh for the 90's when we had the likes of Shearer, Sheringham, Ferdinand, Fowler, Wright, le Tissier to choose from. Dion Dublin makes most of our current crop look good!

Steve Bull got 13 england caps despite never playing in the top flight.

That's more than a fair crack of the whip. And this was when england had proper strikers, too.

Fair enough, but phillips had 8 caps and never scored a goal, so it's splitting hairs really. As for Bull, 7 of his 13 appearances where as a sub and he scored 4 goals, not a terrible return. I suppose we can just agree to disagree. I personally thought he could of been excellent for England but who knows, Anyway my point was he would have got treble the amount of caps if he played for united or the RS etc....

I think even if he'd played for oxford, he would have done.

But the fact he was in the second and third division, rightly, counted against him.

Welbeck summarises English youth atm. Massively over rated with all signs pointing to a glorious career at West Brom or Sunderland further down the line.

More than a touch of the Fraizer Campbell's about Welbeck. So cross Sunderland off because that move was a mighty flop. Back in the Prem though with Craig Bellamy's Cardiff.
