Daniel Amokachi - your memories

Might be wrong, but the game against Newcastle when he scored a couple (think it was a midweek game) we weren't mathematically safe from the drop until that win.

It was a Friday match, televised on Sky Sports and the usual camera view of Goodison was changed to be at a higher vantage point (and it looked great) as a one-off. It is a shame the goals are not on youtube because the first in particular was really sexy.

That surprised me too, thought I might find a video somewhere.I know it wasn't a sell out but I remember getting in ten minutes after the start because of queues at the Lower Bullens turnstiles.

Big queues for all home games after the semi coz they did that ridiculous scheme to get final tickets (certain amount of home games). Thousands queued over night for nothing.

He came in and looked really mobile after static strikers for a while.
He could run with the ball and really smack it, sometimes they went in.
He'd miss tap ins but burst the net from 20 yds in same game.
He got married in the summer after the cup final, big dunc was his best man.
He was really good in the '94 World Cup...and we signed him.

The semi was awesome. Better day than the final which wasn't a great game .
Thanks AmoAmoAmoAmo
3/10. Doesn't rhyme.

Yep. Remember staying all night age 15. Major balls up in the organisation. Still pisses me off today that we never ended up with tickets...

They were selling 4 tickets to everyone!!

*still raging*

I remember watching the team near Goodison on the open top bus parading the FA cup. The roads were packed and eventually we saw the police out riders coming through the crowd ahead of the bus. As the bus approached us, Amokachi was in the middle at the front with his arms out stretched and the lid of the trophy on his head, like a sort of messiah.

Thanks for the thread, it's brought back all those warm feelings from actually winning something.

Remember being told by a taxi driver in town that he'd still go and watch us play after he left, coming to the ground whenever he'd have time off in Turkey.

Seemed like a cracking bloke, don't remember seeing him play myself.

Will love him for ever for the semi-final goals, but in truth it dawned on me pretty quickly that while he was a great bull of a man, actual footballing technique was in pretty short supply as evidenced by the number of times he trod on the ball and tackled himself while trying to run with it.

Bracewell was still going in 95?
Yeah he was I seem to remember him playing against us for Sunderland and that was in December 1996. They beat us three one that day a young Michael Bridges came on and scored twice. Bracewell was in midfield against Joe Parkinson and had the better of him all day.
