Dangerous Dogs

I dog sit for a couple I clean for 4 or 5 times a year while they go on holiday. Earlier this year I was taking the dog, a Beagle Mix, over the fields when one of these dogs over the far corner of the field started running towards us. It jumped on my little dog and I was screaming like a mad woman, luckily the dog owner was a young fit teenager who caught up with it and wrestled it away from my dog and no damage was done. He was very apologetic as he was concerned as much for me as I was in a bit of a state but the thought of what he could have done freaked me out.

It's mad. I was watching TV this morning, and a couple were absolutely adamant that their dog (XL bully) would never do such a thing. I couldn't help but think that these 2 are stupid and can't and won't admit that these dogs are dangerous and have their own mind and personality. Just like any dog, they can snap at anytime. Just hope they don't realise this before it's too late

All dogs should be muzzled and on a lead at all times in any public place

I'm sure there must be some but I've never once met an owner of any dog who had the dog under control 100% of the time and all it takes is once with a dog this size and aggressive.

Definitely on a lead, not sure muzzled for all dogs, maybe the bigger more aggressive breeds

In my book anyone whose dog kills someone should be tried for murder for not having it under control in the first place, that might focus the mind a bit before they step out of the house.

Beyond that they are clearly breeding dogs to be able to cause maximum damage and in which case you should have a licence and a reason to own one. Being a 7 stone chav and wanting to walk your 3 bully XL's in your basketball top to make you look 'ard is not a valid reason.

This. There needs nothing more to be said.

Doubt our establishment will have the brains to see it this way. They'll be looking for a way of someone to collect wealth from whatever decision they make.

There's enough stories of "loving family pets" snapping and biting children out there too suggest that nobody has a 100 guarantee on what their dog is going to do, regardless of how much they think they know it.

These things are pure muscle. There's no stopping them once they decide to go for someone.

There's one near me. I was it walked by a young girl the other day who was clearly nervous as she walked it past another dog. I was thinking there's no way she'd be able to control it if it decided to turn.

There's no logical reason to own such a dangerous animal in my opinion.

These big, aggressive breeds can weigh up to 60kg. The weight of a human. They're muscular as hell and have huge jaws. They should 100% be muzzled.

It's unfortunate for the dog that humans have gone to such an effort to engineer such dangerous animals. But they should be culled. I know it's not their fault l, but it's not the fault of an escaped zoo animal either.

Breeding of these dogs should be banned and it should be a criminal offence. Owners should be tried for manslaughter if their dogs kill anyone.

So this is the latest breed the media are gunning for, so much ignorance as well. I remember Rottweilers got the tag in the 80s and you won't come across a more intelligent loyal friendly breed. It's been Staffies recently so seems the XL is now in the crosshairs.

Some breeds just naturally have a more aggressive demeanour but trained early enough they are fine. I am a dog owner but think dogs should be kept on leads at all times.

Not really. There's something genetically wrong with 70% of these dogs. Too much inbreeding to make them bigger.

This is one breed that is not needed.

Been reading a lot of debate on the keeping of larger more aggressive breeds of dogs like mastiffs and Staffordshire bull terriers etc. Some calling them “devil dogs” and “kid scranners” and others who obviously like and keep dogs disagreeing. I can see both sides really so I keep an open mind...
