But maybe if we buy another 3 or 4 Moyes might actually play one of them.

Centre backs are difficult. They need to play to develop an understanding with each other (and the other defenders), and the position probably isn't a physically demanding as other positions so the need to rotate isn't as great (for instance ProZone reveal that centre backs run the least of all positions on the pitch). So that means there are limited chances to blood young players.

i can see it now....none of Duffy, Mustafi or Dier make it as regulars but this kid becomes world beater and is playing for Utd in 4 years time, in the same team as Rodwell who has now realised his potential and is an england regular.

such is the everton way

If you read the links he hasn't signed for anybody yet. All he's done is visit Fulham, have a look around and take a medical.

I'm pretty sure we've reached this stage more than once, without ever completing the signing. Kyle Naughton?

With Duffy, Mustafi and Dier you'd think we were ok for young centre halfs.

It is a strange one. We also have Nsiala and Johan Hammar. Maybe Moyes has seen something in him that was too good to turn down or he thinks that, with his league experience, he'll be more first team-ready than the other players on our roster.

To be honest as well of all the young lads we've paid money for down the years, only Coleman has made the first team. Gosling showed promise before showing snidey'ness but the track record isn't glittering.

True. Jutkiewicz, Spencer and Ruddy are prime examples. I think partly it's because the reserves set up (including the league) is pretty shambolic. Last time I checked we'd used something like 32 players in 7 matches and games were only played about once per month. There's no momentum. Plus we nearly always get beat. Baxter has done really well for the reserves but can barely get a sniff of the first team, so there's no progression for the kids even if they do well. Thankfully we've started making better use of the loan system. It was good to hear that Wallace is standing out for Stockport.
