May aswell lump them all together since we never seem to have a place to talk about them
Stage 15 of the Giro is about to end with a monster climb at the end, very close at the top and this could be a big stage in deciding the winner

(Mainly counting on Bruce to keep this going)

Nope. I wouldn't mind doing it, but it's pretty expensive. The Dolomites one is the one I'd go for I suspect, and it's €1500, so quite a lot to justify a trip for just me. It's run over my birthday so maybe one year I'll treat myself.

Arguably a harder ride would be the Race Across the Alps http://www.raceacrossthealps.at/index,lang__en.html

It's a single day event but you ride something like 400km in 24 hours, and climb the Stelvio (from both sides), Gavia, Mortirolo, Aprica, Bernina and a few more. In total you scale 12 mountain summits, with 7 of those over 2000m.

Was chatting to an old boy at the top of the Stelvio last time we were there and he'd done it several times apparently. Bit mental.

One that is on my to do list is the Juris na Vrsic hill time trial in Slovenia, and if I ever move out to Liberec then I'll try and organise a time trial up Jested I think. That'd be cool.

Why has this thread only got about 7 posts? I take it not a great cycling community on GOT some of those events posted above look murderous I'm a fat c#nt - I mean an explosive sprinter so if you all wanna be my domestiques then I'd love to give some of them ago.

There have been threads for the Giro and Tour this year. Might even have been one for the classics too. We're not a huge cycling sub-group, but a hardy one :)

I try to mate but not very well. Struggle on the climbs can just about manage Parbold hill

All about practice. I'm only small so the hills are something I enjoy, but I've improved no end over the last few years through better training and diet. Hills that I used to think were tough are now scaled in the big ring.

If you want some motivation, then maybe book a trip to the mountains for next summer and use winter/spring to get in as good a shape as possible. Nowhere better or more beautiful than the mountains imo :)

The stage after the one @bluelife mentioned in the original post for instance went over the Gavia and Stelvio before finishing atop val Martello. Went up there about a month ago. Absolutely stunning. This lake was on a false flat part of the climb so you could get your breath back a bit, before the view took it away again.

Nice old boy at the top as well with a kiosk to chat to. It was during the World Cup though so he was taking the piss as Italy had just beaten us lol
