My fave finals -

1966 Everton 3 Sheff Wed 2 = Greatest comeback in an FA Cup final
1979 Arsenal 3 Man Ure 2 = Greatest flurry of late goals
1981 Tottenham 3 Man City 2 = Greatest FA cup final goal (ricky villa)
1987 Coventry 3 Tottenham 2 = Greatest celebration and diving header in an FA cup final
1989 Them 3 Everton 2 = Greatest emotional FA cup final
1990 C Palace 3 Man Ure 3 = Greatest see-saw FA cup final
1995 Everton 1 Man Ure 0 = our last trophy so the Greatest!
2006 Liverpool 3 West Ham 3 = quite exciting

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

What was that all about?

Brilliant isnt it! The ref, Burkinshaw(?), had been the leading ref at the time, a bit controversial. He famously sent George Best off for bad language. He was surprised to get the final, which in those days, was a big deal for a ref. Very rarely live on TV remember. Anyway, he wanted to get through the game without getting cramp, and without any problems, which is what happened; hence his, *ahem* reaction.

I am amazed it is not more widely known TBF> Post it on RAWK!

To be honest, my first thought was that he was celebrating his reffing prowess rather than celebrating Arsenal winning

That actually may be funnier if I'm honest.

"YES!!! I'm such a good Ref! Go me!!!"

Best - 1966, 1984, 1995 - obviously

Worst - 1993 Arsenal v Sheff Wed - snorefest
2007 Chelsea v Utd - the worst game of football in the history of the game, and the only time I fell asleep.
2005 Arsenal v Utd - only marginally not as bad as 2007.

Most painful - 1986, 1989, 1968, 2009, in that order.

Funniest - 1988 - 'Sound as a Pound' misses a pen and the Crazy Gang lift the trophy
1996 - Cantona's goal beats the Spice Boys.

Exactly! I read his biography once (for some reason, christ knows why), and he was a bit off a tit!

Ledgend

Absolute f'ing Ledgend!!!

Aside from the obvious, I think the Spurs vs City final was great & the '76 Southampton vs United final, was a classic day for the underdog, probably still rates as the biggest cup upset of all time - given that it came in the Final.

On a side note, I think this year could see the systematic downgrading of the competition complete, as it gets a 5.15 KO time & could well see Wigan rest a host of their players for the League game at Arsenal on the Tuesday following.
You'd have to say the Sunderland win over Leeds in 73 was a bigger upset. S'land were 2nd division then and The Leeds team of that time were one of the best in Europe. The same can't be said of the Utd team of 76.
