Is that woman blacking up?

yes, in czech it's not Santa you have to worry about, but a black demon. So it's this entity that gets exposure instead of a fat Coca-Cola mascot. It also means he acts as a deterrent rather than as a promise. More stick than carrot.

Saved by the bell.

I think it comes from long ago when there was no real science and I think it was mainly rich people, who would be buried after being thought dead. They would have a bell on their grave stone and a piece of string attached to them inside the coffin, and if they woke up, they could ring the bell.
Hence the expression, saved by the bell

But don't quote me on it, it's what I read or was told one time.

Quite horrendous people waking from a coma and being in a coffin before all these medical advances we have now. They used to have bells attached to people in the chapel of rest in Victoriantimes. I've read it somewhere years ago.

Yeah, he mentioned it a few times in a Czech TV as a pundit! I believe he still helps us in CZ/SK area with scouting, I know from my mate who works for Sparta Prague that he recommended us Jindrich Stanek. Jan Mucha likely too.

Is Stanek back playing in the Czech league now? I keep meaning to go to a Slovan Liberec game whenever I go, but never get round to it.

He trains with U21 team of Ceske Budejovice (a good team in Czech 2nd division). His career went amazingly down. Was 3rd choice goalkeeper in Sparta (the biggest Czech club) when we bought him.

Oh and Slovan Liberec is quite a decent choice to experience! Really cheap tickets, great Czech sausage with a Czech beer and in the last few years Europa League matches too! Definetely worth a go!
