Very good read, I agree with the suggestion that a lot of the appointments have been a reactionary approach to the last manager. An attackingly positive Martinez to a defensively negative Moyes and a disciplinarian Koeman to a soft touch Martinez if you will.

I don’t feel this is the correct way to pick a football manager, you have to find a balance and not pander to what the fans/players/former players are calling for (I am not suggesting this is purely our strategy for picking managers.

As for this time around, this could possibly be the most important decision the club has made in years and they can not afford to get it wrong.

Good read, but i take issue with the idea of how welcome koeman was in the first place, far from the impression I got, I think we accepted mosh wanted him, and he had done okay at Southampton, that's about as enthusiastic as it got
Who would you have gone for?

To be honest, I was traveling for work at the time, so didn't get as involved in the debate as I did for the Martinez appointment, without having a good memory of what was possible and what was wishful thinking, I remember hoping for Favre or Emery, Ralf Rangnick was someone I've always been interested in but think he was in DoF role already at that point, but overall my main memory of Koeman being appointed was 'meh', and I don't remember speaking to anyone who was genuinely excited or could understand why we chased him so furiously, the idea evertonians saw him as a dream appointment, I really don't recall that, I think that's why the desire to see him gone gained momentum so quickly, none of us, apart from moshiri and a few dutch guys were ever that keen on him in the first place

You're right on your thoughts on Koeman. I checked you for the purpose of a vault and my mission was unsuccessful. I was happy with Koeman, I swapped between him and Emery (who I'd never heard of prior to the EL final)

From my POV Koeman did his job, he took us up 4 places and 15 (ish) points and we stopped playing after the UTD draw at OT.

He was awful this season and I'm glad we acted unlike under Kenwright with Martinez.

My top 3 (mainly due to my lack of European football knowledge) is Tuschel, Silva then Dyche.

We have to get this appointment right, someone with a long term plan and commitment to our club.

The benefit of being an internet tit who slates everything without any real knowledge behind it!

I honestly can't even picture Dyche as our manager, just for aesthetic purposes alone I can't be having that

Very appropriate this thread title..... now that the mystery of Benny’s disappearance has been solved.

He is alive and well and on the verge of becoming a fixture in the Everton matchday squad ;)

What next....Amy Turtle as Toffee Lady :pint2:

I remember being convinced by a few on here. I don't have nearly as much time as I used to, to follow other football, never mind other clubs managers. A few raved about him, and I thought he must be the man. Then I was talking to my brother, who's never been on a forum, and I remember saying "hey, looks like we're getting Koeman, he looks the business"
He replied "hope not, and why does he look the business, what's he actually ever done"? And in the space of a few seconds I realised I was talking turd.

I have come to the conclusion that we past our crossroads sometime in the past and took a wrong turn.
We needed to find a shortcut to the promised land with the last managerial appoint and failed , woefully. My preference was for Favre or perhaps even better Emery with Monchi as ourDoF.
Truth is though they too would be set a difficult task to break into the pack of six title chasing sides.
With each season they are pulling further away and pulling up the drawbridges behind them.
We lack the finances it would take to become a permanent member of the top of the table club.
While I would still like to gamble big with Tuchel, if we could get him, I have come to the conclusion that the more conservative gamble of Unsworth is the safest option. I think he could keep us at where finances suggest we should be ,mid table with occasional best of the rest finishes. With a favourable cup run he may win us a trophy.
But the days of us challenging for titles can be consigned to the dustbin of history.
