Craig Levein has been sacked as Scotland boss, the Scottish FA has confirmed, with Under-21 coach Billy Stark being put in interim charge.

"The Scottish FA tonight announces that Craig Levein has been relieved of his duties as Scotland national coach," said a SFA statement.

"The board of the Scottish FA has taken the decision primarily due to the disappointing results.

"Billy Stark will take interim charge for the friendly against Luxembourg."

The decision comes the day before the squad was scheduled to be announced for next week's friendly in Luxembourg.

If I was the editor of the Scottish Herald 'You can't polish a turd' would be my headline.

The SFA need to look at themselves and how they run the game up north. Scotland has never had so many poor players.

There are actually one or two decent players and there's some really talented youth coming through.

What terrifies me is that, no matter who the next manager, Kenny Miller will still be picked up front.

He fell out with the only decent striker he could have picked & should have sorted out their differences way before he was forced to.

He was out of his depth imo, Scotland should be producing better results than he delivered, he deserved the can.

That was his downfall, in Prague. Playing 4-6-0 was bad enough but then he refused to change things around when we fell behind and his fate was sealed.

Of course, then he spent the next year or so picking squads without our biggest goal threat. The tit.

Who do you think will take over the job mate?

There'll be no pressure on whoever takes it until the Euro campaign, so it'll be a nice number for a year or 2. I reckon they'll be queuing up.

Strachan hopefully. He'll take absolutely no sh*t from either the SFA or the press. He's an irritable wee [Poor language removed] and that can be a good thing in a manager of a struggling side.

I'll love him forever for his response to a reporter who saw him walking towards the dressing room and asked for "a quick word Gordon?"

Strachan replied "Velocity" and didn't break stride. Like a boss.

I like Strachan for the same reason tbh, he was a great player as well, always enjoyed watching him.

I reckon he'd do a decent job for Scotland, not sure he'll want to give up the comfy & well paid pundits sofa though.

Maybe queen kenny might fancy a last hurrah? haha.

"Gordon, do you think you're the right man to turn things round at Southampton?"

"No."

I used to like him but I think he became a bit disrespectful to those interviewing him particularly at boro and seemed a bit of a c@ck
