These companies are always waving there cocks about behind the scenes, this will drag on for a while longer.

Would not class ESPN as a smaller competitor, even though its a mickey mouse company.
Christ that's bad.

even for you.

EPSN never had "first choice" for games over sky.

Never had Champions League.

BT £ for £ outbid Sky on two of the above points.

Mainly as a strategic issue of Sky stepping on BT toes on the massive Broadband market.

So BT strikes back in sports tv.

Yeah, its just a vehicle to get more market share on the broadband and telephone.

Its worked for me, when my contract with virgin media is up this month I'm going back to BT. I just hope there customer service is not as awful as it was about 8 years ago.

Too much outsourcing to India still. Fraid.

But. The general reliability is ok I find.

BT youview is ok surprisingly. I got the extra tv channels.

I got a 80 meg infinity connection.

Super fast.

Yes so when ESPN was competing with sky it was still owned by the biggest media company in the world, not exactly small or underfunded!!

They made loses. And ended up selling up to BT for 20million.

So "the biggest media company in the world" turned tail and ran. Never had first picks. Never spent what BT spent in terms of funding.

Trying to claim otherwise is ridiculous

screwed by sky
screwed by virgin
screwed by bt

much of a muchness really.

You just have more choice on who you're screwed by.

This sadly

I'd rather one company had everything to be honest and I just had to make one payment to get all the football and other sports I wanted

Having to juggle three sports subscriptions is a real pain

Plus, BT's general customer service is awful from my own experience

SKY are miles ahead of them in that regard

Im not, you said ESPN uk were too small, they were part of the biggest media conglomerate in the world. That's quite literally the most opposite of small you could get!

The difference with BT is the Platform and end game not the size of the company

Edit: Don't understand why you've put this in quotation marks either

ESPN were TINY in the UK. Tiny. They lost money and ended up selling as they had virtually no market share of the tv audience compared to SKY and couldn't compete in advertising revenues.

ESPN were purchased by BT for £20million.

Its not even a debate. Exxon is the biggest energy company in the world but is TINY in the UK where the market is dominated by European energy providers.

just like football TV rights.

You're debating something and losing, ESPN were woefully underfunded to compete with SKY. Then had to withdraw from the market. The facts speak for themselves.

So big they were forced to quit ! :coffee:

Disney chairman and chief executive Bob Iger told investors:

"ESPN’s international business has never been particularly large, nor has it been a huge priority for the company,"

Therefore, ESPN is reconsidering its position in the UK, as it doesn't have the financial clout to enter into a bidding war

"It’s tough going for them because they’re frequently competing with local or locally owned and controlled platform owners that are going after sports almost as loss leaders to drive subscriptions to their platforms,"

"It’s kind of tough to be as aggressive buying live sports. So the opportunities for ESPN internationally, I think, are somewhat limited. Not to say that they don’t exist, but it’s never going to be a big part of ESPN’s business."
